So far, I haven't heard one single person who is opposed to this to be saying anything other than "rah rah, Castro brothers, rah rah". No one is talking about how this might make things worse for the people in Cuba. That's because I can't imagine a scenario where it will make things worse for Cubans. The US can now bring agriculture and business jobs there.

Furthermore, I think that we ALL recognize the importance of the internet to a repressed people. It allowed the Arab Spring to happen, for christsake! And, now Cubans will have more access than ever. How is that going to help the Castro administration? It won't. It will severely destabilize it.

If we follow the mantra of "all politics is local", meaning that we should analyze all politics on how they affect us in our personal lives, this is a bigger deal than PPACA or any other single action that Obama has taken, for me at least. And, I'm chalking it up in the "good" column for Obama.

Erika makes very good, logic-based arguments. New tech, internet, 5-decades of unsuccessful policies. All very good, fact-based points.

Then you have comments from the guy Emilio. While he has a small point that most of the money will go to the government (but not all, as it'll be impossible to account for all of it), he then talks about China. Did economic wealth topple the Communist government there? Technically, no. But, China has a huge market-based economy now. And, their human rights record is far better than it was 20 years ago. At least, I didn't hear about any tanks running over people in Hong Kong recently.

Michelle says something about stealing Medicare, moving to Cuba, then coming back and starting a business? What?

I guess that my point is that those supporting this seem to have a lot of facts and sound policy driving their support. Whereas those opposing are far more emotional.
