we don't have a free press. all major media outlets are owned by the same commercial interests that have captured the government.

the purpose of the media is to promote cultural hegemony, not inform the public.

You can't have "real" reporting on a 24/7 news channel.

Yeah, there are a few leaps in there. To have enough content for 24 hours of coverage, you need a LOT of interviews. You get those interviews by letting people talk about what THEY want to talk about. You don't get those people to come on your show if you are asking hard questions.

So, back when we had nightly news and a few shows, they didn't have the need to "fill space". Therefore, they didn't need to kowtow to talking heads.

But MTP is on NBC, not cable, and thus not a 24/7 cable channel needing to fill time.

To that point, though, politicians know that they can simply go on FOX or MSNBC and not be asked any real questions, depending on their party.

So calling this "news" or "journalism" no longer applies.
