didn't say that but what actually transpired and our conception of history are two entirely different things
the oldest source texts for information about the ancient world are from around 1300. there are a few exceptions such as akkadian tablets etc but at best we aren't getting first hand accounts. Also there is bias etc that distorts the picture. Not to mention our own cultural assumptions that come into play when we learn about history.
Its not a science, in other words
