Saz, I think you need to tone it down a bit. "Every cop lies"? Really? Every single one? In the entire world? And what's this about Fox not covering the story? Here's their website as of about 30 seconds ago.
Now, to the meat of the story. The victim's past is immaterial. He was shot in the back running away. The cop did what every criminal does who's caught, and tried to cover it up. Should we be surprised that someone who got caught doing the wrong thing tried to cover it up? Nope. Just hit them with another charge of obstruction, or similar. Same goes for whoever helped him in the cover up. Seems that I've heard that some states may have an "accessory after the fact" crimes also. I'd like to see the helpers get charged with that one.
The cop got caught up in the moment and killed a guy. And, he should go to jail just as long (or longer - he's trained to supposedly resist the "heat of the moment" urges that we all get) as anyone else who commits 2nd-degree murder.
I get the outrage. I don't get the controversy.
