Nobody said that this makes America the greatest, because the U.S. Is sending aid. The point of the thread was that it's better to see the U.S. using soft power like this, or responding to other disasters across the globe.

Ex is saying something that I've said a long time now. Given that America wants to remain the worlds #1 country (economically, politically, etc.). We could do it much better by exercising our soft power, via economic intervention, political pressure, etc. Rather than giving people more reason to hate us.

In other words, military isolationism coupled with global capitalism.

However, that said, our military strategy has worked for us so far, you gotta admit. We went from staying out of a war, to the largest military buildup in human history, to fighting/defeating the worlds largest military . . . and where are we now? Our biggest threat is that some dudes in a desert might try to sneak a bomb into our country and kill a few thousand civilians. Compared to our recent (past 100 years) enemies, that's pretty paltry.
