Not at all surprised to see that Spider has, once again, completely failed to understand current sociopolitical realities. It's honestly to the point where we should establish a Spiderometer - whenever you want an accurate "big picture" analysis, look at what Spider says, and then assume the opposite.
Every single time that we enable greater participation in the economy and in the political system, within the boundaries of the rule of law, there is an economic and social revolution that dramatically improves the lives of the population.
First we gave people the news. Then we widened who could participate in the political system. Then we established public schools. Then we widened who could participate yet again. Then we established the union system, giving workers a direct voice in the market. Then we addressed long-standing social and racial issues. All throughout, whenever we gave people greater control over their lives, you see upper-lower and middle class people improve themselves dramatically, increasing education, decreasing crime, increasing social mobility, increasing quality of life, revolutionizing science, etc. None of these changes were possible without people being earnest and getting what they voted for. We wouldn't be here without our honest mistakes.
Now we have guys like Spider, who are barely above average intelligence, arguing against increasing their own power. Why? So we can continue to roll back the bloody and hard fought progress of the 20th Century? It makes me sick to my stomach to see shit like "mob rule" brought up, when that isn't even in the cards. Nobody is saying abolish the Constitution and establish direct democracy over everything.
Now we have the most educated population in human history, and most of them refuse to participate because they acknowledge they are powerless. So what does Spider want to do? Maintain the status quo, or even roll back participation. Elect a Clinton to avoid a Trump. Because that's gonna help. No, goddamnit, it won't. Every time we are on the verge of change, reactionaries moan and whine about extremism and being reasonable and the need to moderate. "What do we want? Incremental change! When do we want it? In a reasonable amount of time!" says no successful social advocate ever.
A guy like Trump will serve a crucial role if elected. He will be the harbinger of change, whether we like that change or not. And the consequence will be intense and long-term. Good! It's better to go through four years of Trump and incentives the left to not jerk off over somebody like Clinton. He is very much the President American deserves... just like Harper was the PM that Canada deserved.
Give people more power over the political system. Expose them to the consequences of their mistakes. This is how society changes - not a bunch of basics electing people who stand for nothing and will never shake things up.
