the libertarian party is what you keep calling "right wing libertarians". they are small government. they are against things like the government spending a dollar on the welfare of any citizen. they are classical liberals who favor the maxim that the government that governs least governs best. they would remove all influence by the government on the economy if they had their druthers. this is the Libertarian Party. you're hung up on the absolutely garbage meaninglessness of social policies. they are garbage positions to begin with to care about on right v left because it's all about the government control of the economy. it's completely meaningless to speak of them here. and yeah, the government that governs the least governs best. they are not really for gay marriage as they are against government sanctioned marriage. they are not for pot legalization as they are against government regulation of any and all drugs, from heroin to morphine to penicillin to snake oil.

and yes i'm well aware of the con the collectivists have been trying to say about fascists for some time. they call them right wing because they are nationalists, but that's irrelevant for the right left spectrum. the fact is they are a bunch of collectivists. i mean they were in "national socialist" parties. they were all for the worker, but the worker of their country over the workers of other countries. communist, purportedly, were for the workers of all countries. in practice they were more like fascists though. in any event the individual is meaningless, what is important is that the collective is improved by sacrifice.

a republic is not collectivism at all.

from the liberal socialists of sweden to the social conservatives of america, they are all in the "liberal" camp against collectivism, which is fascism and communism. collectivism gives group priority over individual. liberal socialists do not disregard the individual so they still fit on the liberal side.

communists and fascists hated each other since they were fighting over the same sheep. no it's not a conspiracy, its just continued misinformation. its funny, you'll see books asking questions like, "if they are on the extreme left and right, how come they acted the same and then both murdered millions of people?" this is because of how they define right and left. they define left and right with the ideologies that the people expouse along with the meaningless social shit. if right and left is just over control vs lack of control by the government (regardless of issue), as you approach absolute left you come to absolute control by the government and as you approach absolute right you come to anarchy. this is left-right divide in american politics anyway, since the right, the ones who are upholding the values of the previous generations, uphold the liberal beliefs of our forefathers. collectivists always end up on this left side of the spectrum, they are about control of people's lives, control of the economy, control of everything

I get that Galt, but I suspect the vast majority of those who consider themselves conservative in this day and age have very little connection to that idea of small government. Blame Reagan, because this push towards social conservatism, xenophobia, projection of American power, etc., under the guise of conservatism has been building and has become the "new" conservative over the last couple of decades. I think the old school libertarian/classically liberal type needs to completely distance themselves from the term conservative (my opinion), because that's no longer their base. Embrace the third way and own it without trying to bring those over who have no ideological connection, because they are a f**k dead end.
