It wasn't a political contribution, and it was ALREADY private

It's a political contribution. It's money that's going to be funneled politically. Everyone knows it.

It's not the same as a campaign. Again, this change did nothing regarding that, it only changed it so the automatic reporting to the IRS by the group no longer needs to happen; that data is supposed to be private though, except it was shared with the IRS, but never supposed to be share with the general public. If the IRS audits then of course they will get the information

It's clear that people don't understand what this change was and you're arguing about something else which at best is just plain ignorance but if course it could be a straw man. Since I've explained it multiple times already it seems as though it's willful fallacy

Oh, calm yourself and stop building straw men. I didn't say it was a campaign contribution, I said it was a political contribution. Because it bloody well is. The motivations behind this are plain as day, buttressed by the fact that it's important enough to them to want to get it enshrined in law so it can't be easily corrected.

There's no defense for what they're trying to do. Chip away at what little we've got in the way of transparency, or hit it with a sledgehammer. The end result is the same. There is simply no upside to this, Galt. The more information, the better. Always.

again, this is a willful act on your part to yell about things that are completely irrelevant as to what happened

1. these donations were private a year ago, a week ago, and today
2. these donations were automatically pushed to the IRS, but still private information, until this change of rules
3. the IRS when auditing individuals and groups now can request this data; it's a pull when appropriate rather than a constant push of data

you're claiming they shouldn't be private and that's what they changed, but that's not what happened. this change happened because the IRS was giving scrutiny to group based on membership. this led to a criminal investigation under the Obama administration, and which the IRS had to settle a lawsuit with an apology and monetary compensation. it's a good change so that we don't have to settle these lawsuits in the future, depriving the masses of their tax dollars

and you're over there claiming that people's financial records should be in public domain
