Please take the time to at least learn the first thing about the ASW before bandying it about.
There was never a ban on semiautomatic weapons. If the ASW had never expired, there's pretty good odds this gun wouldn't have been illegal, as it may not have the correct appearance to fall under the ban.

Ya, it really was just the scariness that made them illegal. Looking back on the AWB its pretty ridiculous, as even if it were alive today this guy still could have gone down and bought the same rifle...just with a slightly different appearance.

Practically every gun out there is a semi auto- with the exceptions of bolt action, lever action, pump and full auto machineguns, of course.
