There are millions of firearms out there, and many millions more that could be seized from the government. Logistically, it is impossible to ban or remove those guns, and most places with a conservative slant would pass local regulations protecting gun owners, as in fact they already have.
The point being that the Second Amendment has never done anything to protect your society, but it has done much to harm it. It is an issue better addressed at the local level, which is also preferably from a democratic perspective, IMO. A community that loves it's guns should be free to set whatever regulations they want, or have no regulations at all. The feds should stay out of it completely.
