The more I think about it, the American left has gotten way too fat and lazy when this kind of shit offends them.

When iconic progressive FDR was president, he had plenty of radical groups to his left who were angry that he hadn't gone far enough in his New Deal policies. He'd take meetings with them to offer this feedback: "Good ideas. Now get out there and make me do it."

He understood that you need crazies who flank you on the extreme end of your own political beliefs to 1) cover third rails with activist carcasses so others can actually walk across it and 2) provide a contrast between your approach and that of an extremist. The Republicans have used this method for decades now, and as a result, what was once considered the radical far right are now called "Moderate Republicans". For some reason, Democrats hate the extremists on their side of the spectrum and try to selll their milquetoast centrism as a "bold progressive agenda". That's Democrats always lose out in negotiations with Republicans. The GOP starts with far right positions and says it's a moderate, mainstream approach. The Democrats start out with centrist positions and say it's the progressive approach. Hence, they always have to go to the right of their centrist starting point to meet the GOP halfway to their far right starting point. And the f**k up part is that this establishes precedent for that meeting point to now be considered "in the middle" so in the future it's even bleaker for Dems. Grow a pair, dammit.
