Despite fanning the flames for the Democrats a little bit, the reporting on CBS Evening News came down the hardest against the left’s accusations of perjury. Attorney and CBS chief legal correspondent Jan Crawford made a fist and shook her head firmly while declaring:
I see no way Attorney General Sessions would be prosecuted for his testimony. I mean, to be convicted of lying to Congress, you have to give testimony that you know is false, and Sessions said this afternoon he was thinking the question related to whether he had contacts in connection with his role as a campaign surrogate, not as a U.S. Senator. So, in that context, and when you look at the actual questions, his statements would not be considered false under the law......snip~

He's right though. Perjury won't fly here IMO. I don't care though. They should take a shot at it. You know the GOP would in a heartbeat.

Since this thread is all about Trump and fake news I have a new theory concerning Trump's aim at Comey/FBI:

Trump is laying the ground work to discredit anything gleaned from the investigation by the FBI. In suggesting that the FBI wiretapped Trump per Obama's orders he's politicizing the institution investigating himself. He seeks to do so in order to politicize any future evidence/investigations against himself. Let's say Comey comes out and releases new intel incriminating Trump - will the public believe him or will the partisan split remain? Will it further divide the country to Trump's benefit? I know very few if any senators/house members came out in support of Trump's claims but this is seriously damaging PR for the FBI.

This should be a huge story. The biggest story right now. If Trump is ramping up efforts to downplay information in the future the entire House and Senate should be concerned. But I don't see much of an outcry from the GOP yet. And Trump still won't publicly deride Putin in any way/shape/form.

Truly bizarre. And Comey had every right to be outraged at the suggestion and if I were Comey I'd be wondering why in the f**k that happened and start digging deeper. I no longer buy that it was simply Trump watching a channel on the television.
