Margin isn't really "lending" in the traditional sense, as the collateral is already held and instantly sale-able to cover the margin. Its very low risk for the brokerage, considering the steep interest rate, which is why they give margin accounts out like candy.

If all margin trades were covered then we wouldnt have had to bail anyone out or incur any bank collapses, spider.
