Agreed.
To expand on my point, when I was living in the city, I would have voted for local regulation to criminalize handguns. Because they were actually being used regularly in crimes, and because when you have so many people grouped together, the potential for conflict is much higher.
But now that I'm back in my hometown, where I know everyone, and where crime is essentially nonexistent, why would I care if my neighbor had a handgun? It is of no concern to me at all. There is no threat of gun violence here, so there should be very few regulations.
But because these things are established federally, handguns are effectively banned everywhere. That makes no sense to me.
