Yeah but you're not saying anything different except exaggerating the difference. It's a 50% difference because 10% is half of 20%, but comparing rates it's still a 10% difference.

Go back to my example. State A has 200 illiterate people out of 1000 total population. A 10% increase on that would bring them to 220 illiterate people, not 300.

It's an enormous deal. Frankly it's probably the key driving factor in why southern states perform so laughably poorly in terms of GDP/Capita.

But anyway, if you guys want to say it's such a dramatic difference (and I'm not saying it's not) the maps don't do a very good job of displaying that imo.
