Harsh penalties with no plea deals for crimes with a gun. If someone dies, automatic death sentence with no deals. That is with 100% proof, and today that's fairly easy.
The hardest part of doing nothing is knowing when your done.

I couldn't agree more that mental health care should be our next moon mission, so to speak. I've seen the damage first-hand too many times to know the destruction lack of care wreaks.
But what annoys the crap out of me is people pointing to this as a cause with no intention of doing anything about it.

50% of my case are health-care issues at their cores....(addiction/mental health)
40% are families being terrible to each other.....
10% are evil f**k....
addressing addiction and mental health in a meaningful way could make this country a much safer place.
to that end we probably need to look into a much greater civil commitment infrastructure.
