but with confirmation that it was a bomb on the russian plane, that's more death than paris, and just from one bomb. we've got france bombing raqqa with gusto, i think russia will be following suit. that they use older ordinance it doesn't matter. use it to destroy their entire infrastructure. i think france targetted their oil tankers finally.

But you're right: if they had blown up a U.S. airliner, there'd be calls here to nuke Raqqa. What they did in Paris and to the Russians is no different than what they did on 9/11. The question is: are we going to get the response right this time? Because the invasion/occupation thingy we tried in two countries is a non-starter.

from nov 8. congress paralyzed and unable to support or reject obama's half assed measures in syria. i think today there is a different dynamic. we have confirmation of the russian plane being downed by a bomb, with ISIS taking credit, and we had horror unfold on the streets of paris. i think congress would even support a full on declaration of war in support of france at this point (and article 5 of the nato washington treaty). i doubt it will come to that, but i think if it was on the floor it could pass right now. no republican would be yellow in the face of such terrorism

i dont know what else you can call it if they've survived more than a month against the united states and aren't a secondary power at least. while they are arguably a state, they are very minor state, and this whole thing should have been handled last year
