...you're pretty much a typical modern liberal who wants to put in a bit of work and feel entitled to benefits for the rest of your life. Life sucks, get over it. No one gives a shit if you put 20 years in as a cop, fire fighter or other public service if you expect to be given 80k a year for 40 years because you retired in your 30s or 40s.

Why is everyone obsessed with the 100k number? The average pension for a twenty year veteran of the NYPD is around 50k. This guy gets way more because he accomplished way more than at least 95% of his coworkers have or will, whether they work twenty years or forty.

It isn't at all a stretch to point out that we regularly reward unproductive behavior. It is, in fact, the basis of our economic system. The issue is that you guys will cry foul with public servants, whereas you'll make excuses for people like Seinfeld. Why? Because public servants magically deserve less on the grounds that they are public servants.

when discussing benefits and pensions and shit you need to understand the american mentality of "if i don't have it, no one can have it". despite what fiscal conservatives and rightists say they are the most deeply entrenched in the "equality of results" ideology. sure they talk about how they aren't, but the second someone is getting something they aren't, even if they have the opportunity themselves to get it, suddenly it's the most evil thing in the world and no one should be allowed to have it.
