Right Indy, but it's a little hard for me to put my finger on. Trump's popularity DOES indicate that poor and working class whites who have traditionally voted Republican have realized the GOP isn't looking out for them. For reasons that I can't really relate to, they think Trump does.

Btw Indy how familiar are you with Huey Long? He's certainly not a direct analog to Trump but I find there to be some interesting similarities.

Candidates on both sides don't give a ratsass about anything except getting elected.
