what's fun is if you go back to page 10, to hurf's initial post, spider is already ignoring arguments and positing assumptions. even denying source material with his own opinions.

dharma raises a good point. capitalism is unsustainable yet it's not going to slip back into 15th century venitian mercantilism or feudalism or latifundium or whatever other economic system was in place before. suggesting socialism will just revert to capitalism only makes sense as an argument if one assumes humans are predisposed to capitalism, which is an incredibly silly assumption to make.

Spider, consider this. The purpose of socialism is to provide an answer results of those human failings with a rational economic response. On the other hand private property and class society indulges those failings and invites the user to indulge in scores of other "human failings" in pursuit of the idealistic and unattainable goal of social dominance.

The rub, of course, is that the game is tilted in the favor of the elite class so most people will never be able to actualize in such a manner. This is the source of many of our social issues that seem so intractable.
