Why can't millennials find jobs?

I made the decision to drop out of University after one year because I realized I wouldn't be getting work from it. I made great grades and the credits can be used towards gaining admission to another program, so it wasn't a total loss. But now that I have a fairly secure job and my income is growing every year, I don't have much of an incentive for going back, other than the fact that I found university to be incredibly cool if you took the time to really buckle down on the learning and networking part of it. Instead, I went to a decent college and took a one-year program on business management, so I could come back to the farm and leech off my parents superiority.

Anyways, it is pretty clear by now that economic factors are why Millenials don't have jobs. It isn't lack of effort or hard work. It has nothing to do with "laziness" or not going above and beyond the requirements. It is just that the job market sucks, the Boomers won't retire, and we are now saddled with paying for millions of people to sit on their ass for the last thirty years of their lives, sucking up full-time wages, while voting in politicians who are adamant about stripping such possibilities from Millenials.

*shrug*

I am only doing well because my parents did well, and could afford to hire me on. Meanwhile, I am a competent, capable person, and I've never done anything but succeed in my academic and personal life. Despite that, and despite hundreds of hours of volunteering, a college diploma, letters of reference from a half-dozen extremely successful people and six years of experience working in the pizza industry, I couldn't even get a job managing a pizza place because I'm either underqualified ("You don't have a University degree? Well, gee, how can you be trusted to order the sufficient amount of green peppers?") or overqualified ("You have a college degree and a letter of reference from the Mayor of this medium-sized city, maybe you ought to apply to corporate.").

I have a feeling alot of people are caught in that bullshit right now.

it's way easier to just say it's laziness though. then it doesn't require you to do any sort of thinking. also, scapegoating!


there was a fun picture on the interwebz i saw of news headlines every 20 years going back to post civil war and every single headline stated the latest generation was lazy, morally bankrupt, and that the country was doomed because of it.

none of it was ever true, obviously. it was just the previous generation being complete f**k for no reason.
