Affairs are nowhere near as damaging as being denied service. Not at all. Do you have any idea the economic costs of discriminatory lending practices? How about the challenges that would be presented if businesses were able to deny service to blacks or gays or the mentally disabled? How about the social impact of racial discrimination, everything from increased crime rates to lack of social mobility to gentrification.

I think the point is that anyone with less ability/credit history to pay should be discriminated against when it comes to loans, as that is the key factor. Is there some info about the rates of people of different races with the same incomes and credit scores being denied loans? Because that actually is a race issue.

How much harder is it for a black guy making $70k with a 750 credit rating to get a loan vs his white counterpart with a $70k/750 on the same street?

If minorities happen to be poorer, or have lower credit scores, of course they are going to show up negatively in housing and lending statistics.
