no it doesn't. the united states is culturally much the same, and similar to canada. there are differences, sure, but not that great. if anything bringing canada into the fold is the one that makes sense. still, NAFTA has eliminated many of those benefits (as in they've already been realized), but i'm sure they would be much to be found. i wouldn't advocate a currency union without annexation though as the eurozones problems are indicative of what can happen
