because russia has been a backwards shitpile for 700 years. maybe if they manage to not fall into chaos and failure for another 50 years i'll accept that they've finally managed to move out of the medieval era.

Yea Russia is a bit more organized than Comrade gives them credit for. But banking sanctions would still decimate the Russian regime. Realize that this is a kleptocratic state who's purpose is to funnel money our of russia and her people. Russia COULD cut itself off from the rest of the world and struggle through, but how does that improve the position of the posse in charge? It doesn't. They will back down.
