It's amazing how often "ironic" is misused, even by, say, TV news anchors.
The best way I've heard it explained is more often than not, what you really mean to say is coincidental.
One, cough, irony about the Allanis song is that none of the things she mentions is ironic. A bummer, maybe, but not ironic. It's like ray-yay-yain...

it still isn't ironic. "i haven't studied the thing i'm bad at yet, so irony" isn't situational irony. it's just you not knowing what you're doing.

Why would you not want to get the refund? No one under 388,000 TAXABLE income (that means the person makes a lot more gross) pays that percentage. And tax law isn't going to help you here, you need to take a simple accounting class. God, you don't even need that....

sorry chief, planning on studying something does not make you an expert in something, nor does it meet the criteria of expected result vs actual result re: situational irony.
just admit you were wrong. no one will care. people use irony wrong all the time.
