To take your example, if one of the parties pays the judge enough money for the judge to stay in office which way will the judge likely rule? On the merits of the case or in his own self interest?

Perfect example: NRA.

Are they lobbying for their "constituents" or in reality the arms industry? You'd think 12-13,000 gun deaths per year would give somebody pause as to what "people" they're actually serving. Last time I checked even gun owners thought we should have universal checks but even a majority of the population gets drowned out by the power of this "person."

And no they don't simply make their case to elected officials. They make threats: if you attempt to change ANYthing, we will either fund or actually supply and fund a challenger until you are out of office.

So representatives aren't making decisions on what's good for their "constituents" they're making them on what they believe will guarantee their political survival. And while the NRA pretends to be staunch defenders of one interpretation of the Second Amendment, in reality they're a front group for the arms industry.

to be fair i just found out that using marijuana makes it illegal to purchase a gun. this is the kind of bullshit that we need to be against. i'm fine with the mentally ill and violent felons (only violent ones mind you, martha stewart should be able to buy all the guns she wants) being denied the ability to purchase weapons. i think apart of the problem is all of these things are conflated in one, and the NRA is arguing against it simply because it will probably end up being less like what most people want and more like what the progressives think is best for us plebs
