I think stronger penalties are in order for people whose firearms and ammo are left unsecured and then are used in an incident.
But banning firearms is a non-starter and isn't going to happen. It is a waste of time to even discuss that. We need to talk about how firearm usage is regulated.
Perhaps a qualification course requirement in order to pass the federal background check. I think the issue is basically due to uneducated gun owners.
Make strong penalties for allowing unauthorized use, require a short course that outlines the penalties before purchase. That might have a positive effect without violating the right of the citizenry to be armed.
