But see aren't you buying into the NRA stuff when you say that the overriding motive here is that people want all guns banned?
There may be some, surely, but I don't see that at all. Problem is, when you point out why does a civvie need an AR-14 with a 30-round mag (or whatever it is) in a country with police then the whole "slippery slope" argument commences which goes like "Today they came for my AR-14, tomorrow it will be my hunting rifle!"

That argument doesn't work. We don't have an epidemic of people committing mass murder with jet fuel or explosives.
Plus explosives are regulated, which probably explains that. Something the gun people won't even consider.
