She's willing to do whatever it takes to achieve power and recognizes no restraints beyond those imposed externally by one form of force or another. Likely somewhat sociopathic and certainly a narcissist.

Pretty much every ambitious/successful politician is a narcissist and most are sociopaths as well. Consider the office of the Presidency of the United States, and all that comes with holding that office. Now explain why a person would want to do everything that entails positioning yourself to run, then go through an 18 month campaign to win the nomination and after that the general...after which you have to do the job for 4 years, and if you don't want to be remembered as a big stupid one term loser by the whole country, you have to do spend half of that four year term doing another long as f**k campaign to get re-elected...so you can be rewarded with four more years doing this awful f**k job where you're not remotely powerful enough to do most the things you had to promise in order to get elected. Even though you're trying all you can given the limitations of your power, no one cares because as long as platitudes like "be a leader" or "set politics aside and solve the problem" can be said out loud, explanations of our checks and balances will fall on deaf ears.

Now here's the hard part: Explain why a person would want to do all this, while assuming that person is perfectly sane and not a sociopath or a megalomaniac. I won't even ask you to do it for a non-narcissist because that's not remotely possible.

No doubt about that. You also have to have an unflinching resolve that you're worth it. You deserve to be and can handle being the center of attention 100% of the time and the person who makes the decisions. Self-confidence to that degree is tinged with delusion in basically every case.
