Bumpstocks are apparently selling out all over the country now.

This is a perfect example of how gun culture is inherently damaging. These people didn't own one before and it didn't occur to them to buy one. Now that a guy massacred 60 people and wounded 500, and bump stocks might be banned...

Think about that. Think about that reaction. "This device was used to allow for automatic fire in the worst gun massacre in American history. I guess I better pick one up before they are banned."

the question is whether it will make it illegal to own them, in addition to illegal to purchase. a buyback program for the bumpstocks for amnesty should be implemented to remove them, and then heavy fines, forfeiture of all guns if you are caught with one, and inability to purchase more. speaking of which, private sale needs to check to see if someone can purchase, to keep guns out of the hands of criminals

lack of bumpstock would have made the massacre different, but i'm not sure if it would be "less deadly". if he was actually aiming it might have been worse

also he broke open the side window so he could shoot at jet fuel storage tanks. he probably watched a lot of movies where that kind of shit worked, but of course, nothing happened

The latest is that he used AR-15 derivatives and at least one of the guns had been modified and was full auto. He also had an AK-47 but its not clear whether he used it or not.

Almost all firearms used in murders are handguns though, which are decidedly more urban than the rural users of guns who have rifles

I'm not against all gun control, I just think that the emphasis should be on handguns, and we should look at alternatives to banning everything, namely, magazine size restrictions, bump and crank ban, registration, and private sale requirements.
