Galt, that is such a ridiculous argument. "All the government did was GIVE THEM THE LAND FOR FREE." lol are you even being serious?
The government gave them 175 million acres of land, nearly 10% of the continental US.
Assuming that the present day value of each acre is 50% that of your average agricultural acre, or $600 per acre, that means that the current day price of that land is $105,000,000,000. Multiple that by 14 (what one dollar then is worth today), and the total subsidy value of that land was in the quadrillions...
