Also - Japan is back peddling its stance on Russian oil - it was reported that they would not stop importing Russian oil becuase that would increase their dependence on the Middle East. This seems to have changed after consulting with western allies...

I am worried that if we start to supply jets to the Ukrainians that it will be a step too far - and I don't say that out of not wanting to support them I say that out of wanting to avoid a broader confrontation with Russia and its nuclear arsenal. Putin has already declared the sanctions an act of war and they are now shelling population centers indiscriminately - we are lurching towards multiple groznys.

Practically speaking - what is the difference between providing jets for the Ukrainians to fly and... enforcing a no-fly zone?

We're already in a state of war with Russia, it just depends on how much they want to pay for it. If they reverse course now, we can salvage the situation. If they don't?
