You aren't "limiting lies" you're protecting rights. All this talk of "regulating rights" is seriously confused. Rights aren't limited, they are protected. Disarming a crazy person is not abridging his right to own a gun, it's protecting innocent people. Stopping someone from spreading false rumors and ruining a reputation is not limiting free speech, it's protecting someone's property.

Lies are protected for lots of reasons not just what you posited.
Grab Erwin Chemerisnky's treatise and read the relevant sections on the First Amendmet, Mathurin and Menson. It wouldn't be wasted time and be writes in pretty clear prose so it shiuld be accessible to laymen.
