Women on the front lines. Well, they always have been. Don't the Isreal military have woman combat soldiers now? Didnt they fight in the underground in WW2, and the Russians had them also. In the civil war, and our own revolution. They were always there, just not in large numbers and usually not official. But the real 21st centuray civilization status question we need to ask ourselves is not women on the front line, but why there still is a front line.

It appears to me that they changed the policy, not because there's inequality in combat itself, but simply because there is inequality in promotions. It's common knowledge that combat Marines typically get rank faster than non-combat Marines primarily due to attrition and retention. Women are complaining that they can't advance in rank, not that they don't get to hold an M-16 and kill people.

So they can't just arbitrarily promote women in top heavy fields without massive funding so they just open the door for combat fields. Problem solved. But we all know that sometimes solving one problem creates it's own set of problems as all of you keep talking about. Time will tell.
