Probation is a punishment. So is mandatory community service, a lifetime ban on driving and forced counselling that requires good behaviour and cooperation for continued freedom... all of which I suggested.

At any rate, he has probation now and I bet he feels like he got away with something on some level. Since most drunks put on probation screw up before too long I fully expect to hear something about this guy in the news at a later date.
