Everyone is caught up on the WMDs which there were mixed reports about. While that was a misjudgment, the bigger one was the belief that removing Saddam from power was generally in our interest or in the interest of the region's stability. As bad as Saddam was, he was actually one of the better ones by Middle East standards. Colossal f**k up to topple his regime when it was all that stood between the Iraqi public and civil war.

I haven't paid an ATM fee in years. You used to have to go to actual bank and wait in line for a teller to get cash. Now you just have to find a machine that waives the fee. It's really not that hard. Banks screw their customers over in plenty of ways, but spare me the whining about ATM fees.

To be fair, there were quite a few people talking about the inadequate occupation planning before the war even started. Many of them were forced out of government, cobwebbed into shitty, unimportant jobs, or mocked and dismissed by high-level pricks like Cheney.

Politicians don't often "lie" these days. They just obfuscate, refuse to answer, omit the truth, etc. Only the really shitty ones, who have bad PR people, get caught in lies.

Also, the occupation could have been a success. Really, it could have. With proper planning and the political will to think in the long-term, both Afghanistan and Iraq could have been made into better countries.
