As long as you aren't trying to clown me by using the term "able to work" literally instead of "able to get job." Because those are two different things.
There are plenty of super-skilled, educated college grads out there "able to work" right now who can't get a job.
It never ceases to amaze me when I hear the meme put out (not by you Prof) that all these social programs are keeping black people from working and they just need a kick in the ass. Have you ever seen footage on the news of a job fair in your city? A new Walmart opening? A plant opening? Do you ever look at who's in those long lines to apply for jobs?
Don't tell me those people don't want to work. Everybody wants to be self-sufficient. Sure you'll find a few that don't but that's the exception not the rule.
Here's an even better idea Prof: how about ending gov't subsidies for huge, multi-billion dollar, super-profitable corporations or corporate farms? So we tell the poor unemployed guy "Tough shit go to a charity" and yet we hand over wheelbarrels of taxpayer cash to super-profitable industries.
WTF?
I wonder how many food stamps we could buy if we told a BP: no more taxpayer dollars for you. Probably a decade's worth.
