The two biggest impacts:
1.) We delay payment to those we hire to kill people.
2.) We delay payment to those we hire to think of ways to kill people, dropping the GDP significantly.

Number one is only relevant as it also snags in the genuinely well meaning people who want to serve and defend the country. To those people, I say, please stop. Don't sign on again. Tell your children to stop the military tradition. You are fighting pointless battles for freedoms the people are giving away at every opportunity.

Most people who work for the federal gov't have nothing to do with killing people.

You'd be not paying people who work in the IRS, BLS, DoE, EPA, guys who do your passports, visas, national parks, zoos, etc.

If there is a shutdown I think it will be short. The GOP is already on the path to caving.

Watching them claim "we've compromised! We once were for full repeal and compromised to defund and then compromised to delay" is hilarious, though. Apparently it's a compromise when you put lipstick on a pig. And not wrecking the economy is a concession.

Boehner can get a clean CR through the house any time he wants. There are more than enough Dems and GOP to get a huge majority on it. But he's beholden to the tea party terrorists because of the political problems in the GOP right now. Those people are irrational and very stupid but have enough power to f**k the whole thing up.
