Chances are great this kid was on SSRIs.... how many massacres do we need before the drug companies and the drug pushers are at fault?

this isn't deterrence, this is revenge.
A parent who isn't deterred by the risk of their child killing themselves or someone else is not going to be deterred by a custodial sentence.
Also, in situation like the one in the OP we are talking about young adults, they are smart enough to get into the guns, even if you put them in s safe/lockbox/ontopofthefridge....*see Adam Landa.
