OK well if that means that Jesus is whatever anybody wants him to be, then what is the point of what he actually said?

Because what he says and what people are doing in his name allegedly are directly opposed and last time I checked Catholics and Protestants are more or less using the same Bible, yes?

As for your point Comrade: so, Protestants will simply tell us, "The Pope is full of shit"? Based on....?

I'm still having a hard time figuring out how these people call themselves Christians but then engage in an ideology/practice so woefully described by the Pope as noted above.

I've noticed it forever, but here you have somebody that pretty much defines doesn't-get-any-more-high-profile saying the same thing.

So it will be interesting to hear what the responses will be (although granted, Palin already sort of tipped that off).

That said, so now what do all the CATHOLIC conservatives in the U.S. say? What do they have to fall back on now?

I'm liking this pope more than past popes so far.

I understand blowing off the church on matters related to sex--not exactly a surprise.

But what of everything else? How do conservative Catholics now continue to support a system/party that functions as the Pope describes? Because now you're basically disagreeing with most everything.

That said, Catholic or not--what has he said that's wrong? It all sounds spot-on to me and last time I checked the Pope wasn't a Democrat living in the United States.

How to explain that?

If you're talking about his comments on charity and helping the poor the New Testament has been around for awhile. Christ's teachings have been right there for anyone to read for 2,000 years, or so.. What he said shouldn't shake up any Catholic who's read the Bible and calls themselves Catholics/Christians.

It is one of the great hypocrisies of American Christians, IMO... They say abortion is murder, BUT when the child is born some want deny that child food, education and heath care, which in many cases is a death sentence. I'm no fan of abortion, far from it.. But I don't understand what some of these so call Christians are thinking.
