The kicker is how difficult it is, strategically, to tell when violence is necessary, or when you are just being a dick (the point that Libertarian097472915502 inadvertently made).
Take political protest. It's hard to like that douche smashing in a Starbucks window, how much harder must it be to support actual violence? It's something I struggle with philosophically, because I'm inclined to nonviolence.
And yet Western authorities engage in terrifying amounts of violence, internally and externally. A small elite has absolutely seized power, and they are tremendously sophisticated. It is hard to walk away from a comfortable, abit politically meaningless life, especially since real change will require me to support stuff I really don't like (namely, people getting hurt).
Bleh.
