As Our Infrastructure Crumbles, Gov't Does Nothing

I don't think we're at a point yet where high speed rail will be a profitable form of transportation though I do think down the road there will be a market for it. That said, we need to really rev up public transit in our big cities. Any New Yorker who rides the subway will tell you it's getting absurdly crowded. So we already are building a new line in Manhattan but there will need to be more expansion.

But, here's why Republicans should support this. The vast majority of these roads and bridges are STATE roads/bridges (an assumption, based upon the fact that the vast majority of ALL roads are state/local maintained - unless somehow state roads are OK while US highways are crappy). Therefore, it would be the Fed giving money back to the states (or, in reality, not taking it from them in the first place) for this project.

I thought that Republicans were all about smaller Fed and more state/local control?

Wait, nevermind. That's what they SHOULD be fore. But, the modern GOP wants just as large of a Fed as the Dems. They just want to spend the money on different things.

Really, we don't need to repair all these roads and bridges. Aren't we all going to have hoverpacks and flying cars by 2025 anyway?
