That doesn't make sense Galt.
What "they" do is get married. Who they are is gay. If this pizza place didn't have a problem with gays, but instead were opposed to marriage, they would simply refuse to cater weddings. But I'm guessing they would gladly cater a white trash wedding between two divorcees who regularly eat shellfish and screw premaritally. Which means that the issue is, in fact, the sexual identity of homosexuals, rather than the action (sin or marriage).
In much the same way, arguing that you don't have a problem with blacks, just blacks who marry whites, is still discrimination, and always will be. Unless you'd care to argue that people who are opposed to interracial marriage on religious grounds - ie the majority of segregationists - are not discriminatory, they simply won't support certain actions.
Beyond that, I think these sort of things are regularly blown out of proportion. As you noted, nobody was actually denied service, and so no legal action can be taken against the restaurant (especially now that they are protected from it). Giving them a million dollars simply because they have an opinion strikes me as pretty stupid. Not as stupid as threatening their family, but tremendously stupid nonetheless. Either way: everybody has the right to issue an opinion, but that doesn't protect you from the legal consequences, or public opinion.
