ISIS is a direct offspring of former Saddam guys and AQ in Iraq.

Any Sunni group is going to be an enemy of Iran and Hezbollah. ISIS also has a heavy presence in Iraq which I believe pre-dates them getting involved in Syria but I could be wrong on that.

But no, ISIS did not spring from the Syrian war. It certainly helped them blow up, though.

Talking about the area in terms of the reigning nation states is why this conversation is so dumb. These guys are neither Syrian nor Iraqi. They are Sunni Muslims who operate in an area spanning multiple states. They've always had a presence in both states, whether or not they were organized under the same banner was simply a function of operational needs.

As it stands now, where they came from is irrelevant. They are there now, and have a de facto state. America is the best state-destroyer in history, and it should be no problem to annihilate everything within those unrecognized borders.

Where they came from only came up because the claim was made that ISIS is in no way related to our invasion of Iraq. That had everything to do with where they are now. We can't learn from mistakes if we don't admit them--although here in this country we still don't learn even if we do admit them.
