CPTPP with America and other pacific not-Chinas is far more important than any deal with the EU. Australia's most important ally is the united states. Look Aussies and Americans are very much the same kind of people just across an ocean. we should be in ever closer ties. europe lost its influence a long, long time ago. the fact that France is wondering today in 2021 if they are no longer a great power just makes me laugh. it's not 1800 anymore monsieur. as spider already pointed out, the french were dragging feet and not getting things done then threw a giant tantrum when things didn't go their way.
europe needs to become the USE if they want to be relevant again. and maybe this is the kick in the pants to get them there. 99.9% sure won't happen though, you think that the french want german generals leading their men? press x to doubt. sure there's a chance.
europe doesn't want to decouple from china. Aussies have some reservations as well -- after all, china loves aussie coal. but it has to happen. we tried free trade with them and look what it got us. they steal our intellectual property and still just shit on the human rights of their own people, especially when they aren't Han. and if they are Han they shit on them too if they disagree with the ruling party. china is a bad actor, and if europe wants to play with them, fine. but stop whining about everything you big babies. the grown ups, which is apparently the anglosphere, will go do our own thing then, and once you're ready to act like an adult we can talk again
Americans learn only from catastrophe and not from experience. -- Theodore Roosevelt
My life has become a single, ongoing revelation that I haven’t been cynical enough.
