One major reason is capitalism itself. Its sole purpose is to generate profit/ wealth, but its blind on how that profit/wealth is distributed. That is why I said earlier we celebrate gluttony/greed, because we do. Proof of that is on average a CEO will make from 500-1000% or more in compensation as the average floor worker. And nothing in the cards to change any of that. Even some CEOs that have been bailed out still receive absurd wages. So in a way its all part of the success of the capitalistic system we created ourselves to promote our gluttony/greed. The failure of systems like communism or socialism is more of a human failure, rather then a system failure, do to the same thing ,gluttony/greed. How much is enough? We really don't like to ask ourselves that.
The hardest part of doing nothing is knowing when your done.
