Many religious traditions have been secularized and secular traditions have been made religious. We can't separate religious and secular tradition without f**k them both up. But as an atheist who is very unsettled by the idea of state religion, my rule of thumb is that I don't care about a proc or recognition of a day of thanks; I care when thing are being either mandated or prohibited because of religion.
