Sure, it could have been handled better, but mostly it has been allowing China to continue to act like a third-world country even as they've become a juggernaut. I haven't seen strong action against them in a long time.

At some point you need a person to declare open hostilities, and Trump has done that. I will give him credit where it is due. I thought his actions against China were a cynical ploy, something he had no intention of following up on. That is clearly not the case.

how he's dealing with China, in general, has been good. he should have stuck with TPP to isolate China even more, however, this is still good

china needs to be dealt with. china makes a bunch of shitty cheap stuff that we all say "yeah it's made in china" and it breaks, whatever, buy a new one. how about we just buy better stuff from not-china? how about we stop propping up their draconian government by buying so much of their cheap shitty stuff? how about we finally call them out for being a bad actor? they are the world's biggest polluter too -- over doubling the US. maybe lets treat them like what they are instead of what they claim to be so they get special protections on the world stage

LMAO. I said this back in 2015. Now pay attention nerds, more f**k TRUTH coming your way:

1. TPP is a side issue. The fact is none of our trade agreements have done anything to check china. Lowering tariffs on shoes from Vietnam by 5% would not do a god damn thing to the Chinese economy. The TPP's real meat and potatoes was a trade deal with Japan. Something we don't particularly need and a country that is never going to fall into china's orbit anyway. Trump had to withdraw from the TPP, builds him the sort of credibility with rednecks that will allow him to sustain a continued trade war with China (which will hurt said rednecks in short term). TPP is a NON ISSUE, some ezra f**k klein bullshit people say to sound smart/reasonable but which is irrelevant.

2. Lmao at trump casually slapping currency manipulator label on CCP. Remember when Obama thought about doing this, hemming and hawing and bloomerg article week after week about Obama considering doing it? Trump just f**k does it, decides to do it at breakfast and its done by lunch. There is something to be said for someone who doesn't wring their hands and over think everything.

3. China is a very tough spot re currency. Yes they broke 7, but really it wasnt a significant swing in CNY, more psychological. The thing is currency would probably collapse absent PBOC intervention. They manipulate it up not down. Sure it helps their export but goodbye FDI and hello cap flight. Much is made of chinas ability to pull more levels, particularly re currency, but they don't have as much room to maneuver as suspected. CNY at 10 would decimate their economy even if it props up exports.

4. Hong kongers doing GODS f**k WORK. Laying into china right when its weakest. Remember, the CCP is NOT CHINA. Chinese are free in HK. They are free in Taiwan. CCP no china, its just the governing party in china.

5. Trump is GOAT!! Guy has great instincts, hate him all you want but i would trust his gut as if it were fact. There really is something to the notion that the Chinese have been pulling a fast one on a bunch of pasty dorks, and now they are negotiating against a legit GANGSTER who plays by as many rules as they do. NONE!!

Also, WW2 was the THIRD WAR OF GERMAN AGGRESSION. Don't forget, France got pwned in Franco-Prussian war and it almost collapsed the nation. WW1 would have been German victory also if not for USA. The China question will not be put to rest with a single conflict. This is something that will go on until 2100.

The thing you have to remember is the Japanese are Japanese (aka insane) and the Koreans are Korean (also insane). Don't be fooled by the anime and k-pop nonsense, when things get hairy both of them will ante up, go nuclear, and will actually use that shit if the Chinese want to f**k around. You think we pulled out of the INF because we were bored? Absolutely not. We will be putting short and intermediate range missiles in SK and Japan to keep them from going after their own deterrent. If the next president has balls like Trump's, we will put them in Taiwan as well.

There was a lesson to be learned from cold war 1. Russia was an economic laggard without the men or resources to fight a sustained war against NATO. They leaned on their deterrent. The US now finds the tables turned. No doubt Trump and the joint chiefs know this, and will use the nuclear deterrent as wantonly as the Russians did during the cold war. Short and intermediate range middles in Korea, Taiwan and Japan, perhaps even under the command of J/K/T armed forces, would put china in a nasty little box, one they couldn't break out of absent a nuclear war.
