What are the actual ambitions of the NRA?

Everyone can agree the NRA has become more extreme. I don't like that, nor do many others in this thread. What we're taking objection with is the claim that there's something wrong with the manner in which they go about lobbying for their goals.

Well, if you buy into my argument and I know none of you do, the "wrong" part is that they're misrepresenting their goals--oh, it's all about freedom and liberty and Second Amendment and all that and golly: what American doesn't support that.

But that's not really the goal now is it? Maybe it used to be, but above is the most compelling explanation I've heard of what's going on.

So, if you accept that, that means the carnage continues because gun makers don't care they don't want to see profits restricted in any way. And when you put the argument that way, I think you know how many Americans would support that.

And of course if you ask Wayne not surprisingly his solution to everything is guns and more guns. And not just any gun: you need something bigger, deadlier, with a 30-round mag capacity, etc.

As a marketing strategy this has been nothing short of brilliant. Especially the CCW thing. I didn't even put the two together.

and indy you never answered me. because you think the NRA is so successful in what they do, and what their idea is, to quote you -- "arm everyone" -- my question is, will you say that policy works, considering the 50% decrease in gun violence over the last two decades? or will you say we need a different approach, even though, according to the evidence (the evidence of ever- lowering gun violence, and what you claim is what the NRA is and how their influence has allowed all these things to happen), the NRA's ideas work.
