many people with downs syndrome can hold fairly normal lives, driving their cars to their jobs after reading the paper for the scores of their favorite sports teams. there is a range of severity and while i do think that it will be a happy day when we can get rid of all genetic abnormalities like down's syndrome, myopia, cystic fibrosis, etc, we don't need to be putting them down in the meantime even if their lives are terrible
